Sango African Agave is a small batch, Ultra-Premium African Agave, traditionally handcrafted in South Africa. Sango is hand harvested from the desert region of the Karoo, and KwaZulu-Natal, where agave has grown for over a century. The Karoo dessert is famous for the Agave Americana whereas in KwaZulu-Natal, where we distil, we have been growing Blue Webber agave, the variety used for Tequila. Hand harvesting means we select the perfect pina for ripeness and sweetness, selecting Pinas aged 5-8 years and test sugar levels before harvest. We use a combination of oven and pit roasting method to slowly cook our agave and unlock the agave’s sweetness, before shredding the cooked pinas to extract their precious juice, ready for fermentation. Once fermented, we copper distil Sango to a create super smooth liquid that has an elevated taste and texture. Our Reposado is aged in heavy charred reconditioned South African oak barrels for 12 months. This process gives our agave spirit a more rounded finish. Tasting notes: Roasted bell pepper and sundried tomato meet zesty lime and cumin on the nose. Medium body with a hint of astringency, finishing strong with a punch of flavour.
